Downtown bars and pubs

These places usually close at 10 PM and Sundays

  • Alfonso
    Traditional bar. 18 Motolinía St.Historic Centre.
  • Bar Mata
    Located in a XIX century building in a third floor, trendy atmosphere, curious lift and nice view. Joung crowd. Nouvelle cousine mexicane during the day. 11 Filomeno Mata. Downtown.
  • Sanborn's lounge
    Within the splendid House of the Tiles in a turn of the Century stlyle.Correct and nice. Madero No. 4, Centro. (open daily)
  • La Ópera
    Turn of the Century decorated, this old pub offers wide range of cocktails, snaks and orders. Bar is worth visitng although crowded before Bellas Artes Concerts and saturdays. No.10 Calle 5 de Mayo Alameda.
  • Mancera
    Spanish style pub, relaxed atmosphere inside a colonial state house. 1920's bar. Snaks and orders. No.49 Venustiano Carranza St., Downtown.
  • Salón Luz
    Local and international drinks with very special snaks. Gante and Venustiano Carranza St., Downtown.
  • Salón Victoria
    Traditional pub in San Juan neighbourhood.43 López St.
  • Jorongo
    Maria Isabel Sheraton Hotel. Reforma and Tiber St.

Southern Bars and pubs

  • El hijo del Cuervo
    Live music, young style in the heart of Coyoacan: No. 1.Francisco Sosa at Jardín Centenario. Local crowd and music.
  • Las Coronelas
    Staged as a country style Cantina in the south of the city: 1765 Insurgentes sur Ave., Col. Guadalupe Inn.
  • La Guadalupana
    "Toreros" ambience in an excellent location. Entries and snaks, wide range of beers. Higuera St. and Caballocalco, few steps behind Saint John the Babptist Parrish Church Coyoacan .

Ball Rooms

  • Bar León
    Survivor of the Band Era, still showing Afro-Cuban music. Small and old fashioned but worth the body-to-body rythm. No.5 Brasil St., Downtown.
  • Salón México
    Revival of the famous 30's dance hall in a 90's architecture. Here you will meet the great orchestras from Mexico and the Caribbean. Pensador Mexicano and San Juan de Dios St. In front of Alameda park. (Arrive and leave by car, since walking in the area is dangerous).
  • Salón Colonia
    Traditional Danzón and courteus dances inside a workers neighbourhood South of Historic Centre. 33 Manuel M. Flores St. few steps from Eje Central. Opens Wednsday and Sunday when a free bus departs from San Antonio Abad metro station. Orchestras start playing since 6 PM up to midnight.

Bars & clubs

Locally known as "antros", must clubs open at 10 PM but nightgoers arrive arround midnight. Expect big crowds and inspection at the door but you might get in easily if you show your passport. Observe others behavour and bring friends. Night scene changes constantly, so it is advisable to phone first. Arrival and departure should be done by certified taxi (sitio or radio-taxi).
