Getting there and enjoing
Although not actually in the geographical center of the country, products from
every region of Mexico are available in Mexico City. This commerce, with deep indigenous
roots, is displayed to its fullest advantage in the city's lavish markets, stalls,
stores, modern malls and boutiques. Luckily, many foreign visitors will find prices
in Mexico City to be relatively cheap, which will give them an obvious edge when
making their purchases, especially when these include handicrafts, souvenirs or locally
made candies.
The City does not rest when lunch time rolls around, but it does pause to take
refuge in one of the multitude of restaurants (among
them, traditionals ones), bars and cafès. Not without
reason Mexican food has been categorized as intense and
varied and capable of satisfying any discerning palate.
Mexico City can be reached by diverse means of transport
from all over the world. To this effect, the City counts on a world-class international
airport, four long-distance bus terminals, and a central railroad station.
Countesses, movie makers, writers and even distinguished statesmen have found solace
in the nooks and crannies of Mexico City, telling their tales and even taking up
residence here. So, even if a brief stopover is originally intended, perhaps a
stay of a few days would allow time to discover some of these attractions
before continuing onwards, for Mexico City is a strategic point for journeying on
to any one of the beaches, cities and other points of destination in the country.
Don't miss it !
